Our first exhibition at the Cavendish Hotel was deemed to be a great success by artists and visitors. A huge thank you to all our volunteers who assisted in setting up the exhibition and our band of intrepid stand builders who were headed by our own Janet Collings. Our gratitude also goes out to the members who did tours of duty over the course of the weekend. And finally, a special thank you to the committee who worked tirelessly to set everything up to a fantastic standard in our new environment.
The hotel location created a lovely ambience and visitors remarked on how the lighting was noticeably better than our previous venue. So, a big thank you to the Cavendish Hotel whose staff went above and beyond to provide all that was needed to ensure the entirety of the exhibition went smoothly.
The judges consisted of our patron, Margaret Timmers along with Jennifer West and Christopher Osborne. They were so impressed with the standard of work that they found it difficult to choose for the categories, so asked for three extra Commended Certificates to be awarded.
The presentation and official opening of our exhibition was conducted by Margaret Timmers, who gave an excellent speech including an expressive description of the qualities and interpretation of individual members' paintings who were fortunate enough to achieve recognition.
There were over 200 paintings on display and we had visitors from far and wide, including London and Hastings, and had paintings being purchased almost immediately as we opened.
We sold 20 paintings, 5 portfolios and 70 cards.
